Description
This ultra-fudgy one-bowl brownies recipe is rich, dense, and gooey with a melt-in-your-mouth texture. It uses simple pantry staples and requires only one bowl, making it easy and quick to prepare.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup (95g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- Optional: 1/2 cup (90g) semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks
- Optional: 1/3 cup (40g) chopped walnuts or pecans
Instructions
- Melt the butter gently in the microwave or on the stove. Let it cool for a minute so it’s warm, not hot.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder in a separate small bowl or directly into the wet mixture.
- Gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture with a wooden spoon or spatula. Stop as soon as there are no more streaks of flour. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts if using.
- Pour the batter into a prepared 8×8-inch baking pan and spread evenly.
- Bake at 325°F (160°C) for 25-30 minutes. Start checking at 25 minutes by inserting a toothpick in the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs but no wet batter.
- Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before slicing to set the fudgy texture. Chill in the fridge if desired.
Notes
Measure flour carefully to avoid cakey brownies. Do not overbake; use the toothpick test to check doneness. Use real unsalted butter for best fudgy texture. Let brownies cool completely before slicing. Brownies taste better the next day once flavors meld. Optional add-ins include chocolate chips, nuts, peanut butter swirl, or espresso powder. For dairy-free, substitute coconut oil for butter and use dairy-free chocolate chips.
