Description
A refreshing and easy 5-ingredient drink that balances the earthy bitterness of matcha with the natural sweetness of fresh strawberries. Perfect iced or warm, this latte is quick to make and visually stunning.
Ingredients
- 1 cup fresh strawberries (about 150g), hulled and sliced
- 1 teaspoon culinary-grade matcha powder
- 1 cup milk of choice (240ml), dairy or plant-based
- 1 tablespoon honey (or maple syrup/agave for vegan option)
- 1 cup ice cubes (about 150g), optional for iced version
Instructions
- Puree the hulled and sliced strawberries in a blender until smooth and bright red. Optionally strain through a fine mesh sieve for a smoother texture.
- Sift 1 teaspoon matcha powder into a small bowl. Add about 2 tablespoons hot water (around 175°F/80°C) and whisk vigorously until frothy and smooth.
- Add 1 tablespoon honey (or preferred sweetener) to the strawberry puree and stir well. Pour in the matcha mixture and blend or stir to combine.
- Fill a glass with ice cubes. Pour milk over the ice until the glass is about three-quarters full. Slowly pour the strawberry-matcha mixture on top or mix together if preferred.
- Gently stir before drinking to combine flavors. Serve immediately.
Notes
Use culinary-grade matcha for best flavor. Avoid boiling water to prevent bitterness. Adjust sweetness based on strawberry ripeness. For vegan version, use plant-based milk and maple syrup instead of honey. For warm latte, heat milk and strawberry puree gently and whisk in matcha off heat. Store strawberry puree and matcha separately in fridge up to 2 days. Do not freeze.
