Smoked Salmon Bagels: Easy 15-Min Breakfast for Kids

  • Author: Saly
  • Total Time: 10-15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A quick, no-cook breakfast featuring toasted bagels topped with homemade whipped cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers, and fresh lemon. Perfect for busy mornings and customizable for picky eaters.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large bagels (plain or everything)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (optional, for toasting)
  • 8 oz (225g) full-fat block cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill (or fresh)
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 oz (225g) smoked salmon (nova-style)
  • 2 tablespoons capers, drained
  • ¼ small red onion, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese by leaving it out for 30 minutes or microwaving for 15 seconds.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, dill, and black pepper.
  3. Whip the mixture using a hand mixer or fork until light, fluffy, and free of lumps.
  4. Split the bagels in half horizontally and toast them until golden brown and crisp.
  5. Drain the capers well and pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess brine.
  6. Spread a generous layer of the whipped cream cheese onto the warm bagel halves.
  7. Tear or cut the smoked salmon into bite-sized pieces and lay them over the cream cheese.
  8. Sprinkle with capers and red onion slices, then squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top.
  9. Serve immediately while the bagels are still warm.

Notes

Ensure cream cheese is fully softened before whipping to avoid lumps. Drain capers thoroughly to prevent soggy bagels. The whipped cream cheese can be made up to 3 days in advance and stored in the fridge. Do not freeze assembled bagels as the texture will be ruined.
