Description
These BBQ pulled pork sliders with tangy slaw are a family-friendly, hands-off slow cooker recipe perfect for Labor Day or any casual get-together. The sliders balance sweet, smoky, and tangy flavors with a crunchy slaw to cut through the richness of the pork.
Ingredients
- 3–4 pounds pork shoulder (1.4–1.8 kg)
- 2 cups BBQ sauce (homemade or store-bought)
- 12 small slider buns (Hawaiian rolls recommended)
- 2 cups shredded cabbage (green or purple, about 150g)
- 1 cup shredded carrots (about 100g)
- ½ cup mayonnaise (120ml)
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (30ml)
- 1 tablespoon honey (15ml)
- 1 teaspoon celery seed
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: pickled jalapeños for slaw
- Optional: smoked paprika for BBQ sauce
Instructions
- Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder, leaving some for juiciness. Rub with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika if using.
- Place pork in slow cooker and cover with about 2 cups of BBQ sauce. Cook on low for 8 hours until meat pulls apart easily.
- While pork cooks, shred cabbage and carrots. In a large bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, honey, celery seed, salt, and pepper.
- Toss shredded veggies in dressing until well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let flavors meld.
- When pork is done, transfer to a large bowl and shred with two forks.
- Pour some cooking liquid and sauce back over shredded pork and stir to combine.
- Optionally, split slider buns and toast lightly in a skillet or under broiler until golden.
- Assemble sliders by piling pulled pork on bottom bun, topping with tangy slaw, and covering with top bun. Serve immediately.
Notes
Make the pulled pork a day ahead to save time on the day of serving. The slaw tastes best if made at least an hour ahead or overnight. Use leftover pork creatively in tacos or wraps. For gluten-free options, use gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps. Reheat pork gently with a splash of water or broth to keep moist. Avoid microwaving directly.
