Description
A quick, easy, and flavorful Korean ground beef rice bowl recipe perfect for weeknight dinners, made with simple ingredients and ready in about 25 minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 pound (450g) ground beef (80/20 recommended)
- 1/4 cup (60ml) low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons (25g) brown sugar
- 4 cloves garlic, minced (about 1 tablespoon)
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 stalks green onions, sliced
- 3 cups cooked white or brown rice (about 600g)
- Optional vegetables: shredded carrots, cucumber slices, steamed broccoli
Instructions
- Cook the rice according to package instructions, rinsing under cold water to remove excess starch if desired.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef. Break it up and brown evenly without stirring too much at first to develop a caramelized crust. Drain excess fat.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes to the beef. Stir constantly to avoid burning the garlic.
- Mix soy sauce and brown sugar in a small bowl, then pour over the beef mixture. Stir and simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef.
- Turn off heat and stir in sesame oil and sliced green onions.
- Assemble bowls by spooning warm rice into bowls, topping with the beef mixture, and adding optional veggies. Garnish with extra green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
