Description
A refreshing, non-alcoholic summer drink made with fresh peaches, ginger root, black tea, and sugar. This simple 5-ingredient recipe creates a homemade syrup that is tart, spicy, and sweet, perfect for hot days.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 medium ripe fresh peaches
- 2-inch piece fresh ginger root
- 2 tablespoons loose-leaf black tea (or 4–5 tea bags)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 4 cups water (1 cup for syrup, 3 cups for brewing)
- Optional: Lemon or lime juice for serving
Instructions
- Wash peaches and slice into rough chunks (peeling is optional). Peel and thinly slice the ginger root.
- In a small saucepan, combine peaches, ginger slices, sugar, and 1 cup of water. Stir to coat.
- Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium-low and simmer for 8-10 minutes until peaches are soft and syrup is golden-orange.
- While syrup simmers, boil 3 cups of water. Remove from heat and steep tea for 3-5 minutes. Strain and let cool to room temperature.
- Strain the ginger peach syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a large pitcher, pressing on fruit to extract juice. Discard solids.
- Pour cooled tea into the pitcher with the syrup and stir well. Adjust sweetness or tartness to taste.
- Serve over ice. For best flavor, chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
Use fresh peaches and fresh ginger root for best flavor. Do not over-steep the black tea to avoid bitterness. The syrup can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. The finished tea keeps for 3 days in the fridge.
