Description
A simple, budget-friendly 5-ingredient remedy made with raw garlic and honey to support the immune system during cold and flu season.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 whole head of raw garlic (approx. 10–12 cloves)
- 1 cup (240ml) raw, unfiltered honey
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (with the mother)
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 inch piece of ginger root, grated (optional)
- 1 pinch black pepper (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme or oregano (optional)
Instructions
- Separate and peel 10-12 cloves of garlic. Lightly smash them with the back of a fork to release juices without turning them into paste.
- Place the smashed garlic cloves into a clean, completely dry 8-ounce glass jar.
- Add the apple cider vinegar and lemon juice to the jar. If using, add the grated ginger and dried herbs.
- Pour the raw honey over the garlic, ensuring the cloves are fully submerged to prevent mold. Push down to remove air bubbles.
- Stir gently to combine, add a pinch of black pepper, and seal the jar tightly.
- Store the jar at room temperature, away from direct sunlight, for at least 24 hours (ideally 2-3 days). Stir once daily.
- After the infusion period, the honey is ready to use. It can be stored in the pantry for 1-2 months.
Notes
Ensure the jar is completely dry to prevent mold. Use raw, unfiltered honey for maximum enzymatic benefits. Cooked garlic should not be used as it lacks allicin. Do not give to children under 1 year old due to botulism risk. The honey may turn cloudy or crystallize, which is normal.
