Description
A quick, frosty, and autumnal slushie made by freezing apple cider and blending it with fresh juice and warm spices. It captures the flavor of fall in a glass without the fuss.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (240ml) unfiltered apple cider
- 1/2 cup (120ml) 100% apple juice
- 1 cinnamon stick (or 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon)
- 1 pinch nutmeg (freshly grated preferred)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Thin apple slices (for garnish)
- Whipped cream (for garnish)
- Cinnamon sugar (for rimming glasses)
Instructions
- Pour the apple cider into a freezer-safe container, leaving about an inch of space at the top for expansion. Freeze for 4-6 hours until solid.
- Remove the frozen cider from the freezer. Break it into chunks using a rolling pin (if in a bottle) or a spoon (if in a jar).
- Place the frozen cider chunks into a blender. Add the apple juice, cinnamon stick (or ground cinnamon), nutmeg, and vanilla extract.
- Blend on low speed, gradually increasing to high, for 30-60 seconds until the mixture is smooth and slushy. Add more juice if too thick, or more frozen cider if too thin.
- Taste and adjust sweetness or spice levels as desired.
- Serve immediately in short glasses or mugs, garnished with apple slices, whipped cream, or a cinnamon sugar rim.
Notes
Use unfiltered, cloudy apple cider for the best tart flavor and freezing texture. Apple juice alone will not freeze properly and lacks depth. Serve immediately as the slushie melts quickly. For an adult version, add 1-2 ounces of bourbon, rum, or brandy per glass.
