Fall Baked Pumpkin Spice Donuts: 5-Ingredient Maple Glaze

  • Author: Saly
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

These fall baked pumpkin spice donuts are tender, spiced perfectly, and topped with a thick maple glaze. They are baked, not fried, making them easier to make and healthier than traditional donuts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated white sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • ½ cup (120g) 100% pure pumpkin puree
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 3 tablespoons real maple syrup
  • 12 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • a pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan thoroughly with non-stick spray or butter.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. In a separate large bowl, whisk melted butter until smooth. Add sugar and whisk vigorously for a minute to aerate. Add egg and whisk until combined. Add pumpkin puree and vanilla, whisking until smooth.
  4. Pour dry ingredients into wet ingredients. Gently fold with a spatula until flour just disappears. Do not overmix.
  5. Dollop batter into donut pan holes, filling each about ¾ full.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes until tops spring back and a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let donuts sit in pan for 2 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. While donuts cool, whisk powdered sugar, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt. Add milk one teaspoon at a time until thick but pourable.
  9. Dip the top of each cooled donut into the glaze, let excess drip off, and place back on the rack to set.

Notes

Use 100% pure pumpkin puree, not pie filling. Ensure baking powder is fresh for proper rising. Do not overmix the batter to avoid tough donuts. Cool donuts completely before glazing to prevent the glaze from sliding off. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
