Description
A creamy, vibrant, and healthy-ish 5-minute drink featuring a matcha base, blueberry swirl, and vanilla cold foam. It offers a calm focus from L-theanine and antioxidants without the coffee jitters.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 teaspoons (5g) ceremonial grade matcha powder
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) hot water (around 175°F / 80°C)
- 1 cup (240ml) milk (oat, almond, or dairy)
- 1–2 teaspoons (5-10ml) sweetener (maple syrup, honey, or agave)
- ½ cup (75g) fresh or frozen blueberries
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) water or milk (for blending berries)
- ½ teaspoon (2.5ml) lemon juice
- ¼ cup (60ml) heavy cream or chilled coconut cream
- ¼ teaspoon (1ml) vanilla extract
- Pinch of sugar
Instructions
- Blend blueberries, water (or milk), and lemon juice until smooth. Strain if desired for a seedless swirl, then set aside.
- In a small bowl or mug, add matcha powder and hot water. Whisk vigorously in a ‘W’ motion until smooth and frothy with no clumps.
- Heat milk in the microwave or on the stove until warm (around 140°F / 60°C). Froth if desired.
- In a glass, add the blueberry swirl, then pour in the hot milk.
- Slowly pour the whisked matcha over the back of a spoon so it floats on top to create layers.
- Whip heavy cream (or coconut cream) with vanilla and a pinch of sugar until soft peaks form.
- Spoon the cold foam gently over the top of the latte.
Notes
Do not use boiling water on matcha as it makes it bitter; let water cool to 175°F. Use ceremonial grade matcha for best flavor. For the best cold foam, ensure cream and bowl are cold. The blueberry puree can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
