Baked Cinnamon Roll French Toast Casserole Easy Recipe with Simple Ingredients

  • Author: Saly
  • Total Time: About 1 hour (including optional soak time)
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

A cozy and indulgent baked cinnamon roll French toast casserole that combines the best parts of cinnamon rolls and French toast. Made with simple ingredients and minimal effort, perfect for brunch or feeding a crowd.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package store-bought cinnamon rolls (about 8 rolls), icing included or omitted
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk (480 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • Optional add-ins: ½ cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)
  • Optional add-ins: 1 cup fresh or frozen berries (blueberries or raspberries)
  • Optional for serving: maple syrup or glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Unroll the cinnamon rolls and cut each into quarters.
  3. Spread the cinnamon roll pieces evenly in the baking dish, allowing them to overlap slightly.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, brown sugar, salt, and melted butter until smooth and slightly frothy.
  5. Pour the custard evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces. Use a spatula or spoon to gently press the pieces down so they soak up the custard.
  6. Optional: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and let it sit at room temperature for 15-30 minutes to allow custard penetration.
  7. Bake uncovered for 35-40 minutes until the top is golden brown and edges are bubbly. The custard should be set but slightly wobbly in the center.
  8. Let the casserole cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  9. Serve with a dusting of powdered sugar, a drizzle of maple syrup, or cinnamon roll icing if desired.

Notes

Use fresh cinnamon rolls for best texture. Letting the casserole soak for 15-30 minutes before baking improves custard penetration. Watch bake time closely to avoid sogginess or burning edges. Whole milk or half-and-half yields the creamiest custard. Leftovers reheat well in microwave or oven. Customize with berries, nuts, or extra glaze.
