Description
Quick, tasty, and kid-approved ham and cheese pinwheel roll-ups perfect for busy mornings and school lunches. Made with simple ingredients and easy to prepare.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 large flour tortillas (10-inch / about 25 cm)
- 8 ounces (225g) cream cheese, softened
- 8 ounces (225g) deli ham, thinly sliced
- 8 ounces (225g) cheddar cheese, sliced or shredded
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) mustard (optional)
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) honey (optional)
- A handful of fresh spinach or lettuce leaves (optional)
- A pinch of freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
- Take the cream cheese out of the fridge to soften if you haven’t yet. Lay out your tortillas on a clean surface. Have your ham, cheese, mustard, and honey ready.
- In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese with mustard and honey (if using). Stir until smooth and well blended.
- Using your knife or spatula, spread a thin, even layer of the cream cheese mixture over each tortilla, leaving about half an inch around the edges clear to prevent overflow when rolling.
- Arrange the deli ham evenly over the cream cheese layer. Next, layer the cheddar cheese slices on top. If you’re adding spinach or lettuce, place it over the cheese now. Sprinkle a tiny pinch of black pepper over everything.
- Starting at one edge, roll each tortilla up tightly but gently to avoid squeezing out the filling.
- Wrap each roll-up tightly in plastic wrap or parchment paper and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Remove the rolls from the fridge and unwrap. Using a sharp knife, slice each roll into 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick pinwheels. Arrange on a plate or pack directly into lunch containers.
Notes
Use softened cream cheese for easier spreading to avoid tearing tortillas. Chill roll-ups before slicing to keep shape and make clean cuts. Customize with different meats, cheeses, or veggies. Prepare up to 3 days ahead and keep refrigerated. Pack with an ice pack to keep fresh.
